Mental Health Family Support
The Family Support and Education Center at TLS provides ...
- Crisis consultation, education, and individualized support and advocacy for the families and concerned friends of persons labelled with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, clinical depression and other serious mental health diagnoses
- Free services designed to help caregivers cope with the pain, frustration, bewilderment and stigma that often accompany the mental health issues of their loved ones
A free 12-week course titled "Supportive Family Training" is offered, including discussion of:
- Information about current medications and research on schizophrenia, depression, bipolar disorder and other serious psychiatric disorders
- Communication, coping and management skills, and problem-solving techniques
- Maintaining personal wellness as a family member
Staff are also prepared to offer information about obtaining medical and public assistance entitlements, and assistance with referrals for mental health and therapy treatment.
