History

In 1974, with the combined assistance of the United Way, the County of Onondaga, and the State of New York, Transitional Living Services (TLS) was formed. TLS provides community residential services for persons who have been involved in the mental health system as well as persons with developmental and traumatic brain injuries. Services are geared toward supporting people in developing satisfying living situations in the community. Residential programs include apartments as well as homes. Each Residence is designed to meet the individual needs of those who live there.

TLS also provides vocational opportunities, outreach programs, follow-up, and family support programs. TLS participants and their families and other community members, including service providers, are involved in the process of planning, developing, implementing and evaluating TLS' services. This process insures TLS' provision of a variety of quality services, which are based on current need.

TLS is staffed with dedicated and experienced individuals skilled in psychology, social work, community organization, education, employment, recreation, and self-help groups. They work to provide an easier transition for individuals with disabilities to establish their place in the community.

TLS supports individuals with psychiatric labels, developmental disabilitites and traumatic brain injuries.
